Clowder-fying a Name

To clowder-fy, a name, do the following:

  • For "original" sounding names, like Keedel or Tul, repeat the word several times to yourself as rapidly as possible. Do not make any efforts to correct your pronunciation if you start mispronouncing the word, as this is the entire point. Write exactly what you hear (like you’re a kindergartner learning how to spell; reference the section below if it seems off) and make modifications based on if the resulting word looks/sounds too similar to another word. If it looks/sounds like a word with inappropriate connotations, go back to start.

    • Ex: Turtle → Tul, Suvi → Suveen, Tenelle → Tinel
  • For respelling existing words/names:

    • Make sure it only has 1-2 syllables. Otherwise, go with the above process instead.
    • If it ends in -ow and makes an "oh" sound, remove the w. ‘O’ always makes an "oh" at the end of words, and makes it within words 90% of the time.

      • Ex: Shadow → Shado, Window → Windo
    • Remove repeated letters, with the exception of "ee."

      • Ex: Snowball → Snobal, Ellie → Eli
    • G sounds are funky. If it’s not a soft G and it precedes an "ih" sound (even an "ih" sound that isn’t actually spelled with an i), add a w.

      • Ex: Logan → Logwin
    • I by itself can make an "ee" sound. Respell anything with an "ee" sound that doesn’t use an i or ee with one of those two based on how clearly the "ee" sound reads. Typically, "ee" sounds before a d or n will be ee and everything else will be i.

      • Ex: Ellie → Eli, Toby → Tobi, Leo → Lio
    • Replace soft g with j.

      • Ex: Angel → Anjel
    • Rule of cool always applies here. If a respelled name looks or sounds lame, fuck with it in whatever way you want.
