Tabith was demure as a kitten, which she believes led to her being taken advantage of. She seeks power because she believes it will protect her, and puts herself and her son before anyone else. She views others as innately threatening and craves control.

History

Summary

Tabith was born in the Mouse Catchers to a forbidden union. Her parents were put to death, and she was taken in by one of the clowder's Heads, Nik. Nik manipulated her into bearing his son, Snobal, then attempted to have him culled when it was clear he had malocclusion. Tabith killed him to save her son, becoming Head of the Mouse Catchers herself.

When she later discovered Aster, a Hider, gave birth to her son's kittens, she pursued Aster, attempting to take the kittens from her to protect her son's reputation. This pursuit ultimately resulted in the deaths of Aster and Snobal.

Detailed History

• Tabith was the result of an unmatched pair, so her parents were executed soon after she was weaned. Nik took her in, though not without motives. After training her to hunt, he claimed her catches as his own to impress mollies. When he caught her meeting with a dark-furred cat, he was enraged and made her vow to give her first heat to him. A few months later, Tabith gave birth to Snobal and his stillborn siblings.
• Tabith worked with Quint and Keth to kill Nik to protect Snobal, who Nik ordered to be culled due to his malocclusion. But Tabith neither trusted nor liked Quint, and didn't want to lead alongside him. So, Tabith took the brief window Quint was dealing with Nik's body to walk ahead of him and convince the Mouse Catchers that Quint was the one who killed Nik, rather than it being the Tree's Leaves as they had agreed. Due to Mouse Catcher law, this barred him from leadership.
• The moment Snobal reached what the Mouse Catchers considered adulthood, she appointed him as Head.
• Tabith was told by Quint that Snobal mated with a Hider, Aster, who had his kittens. Knowing this would result in a scandal if the information got out, Tabith made an agreement with Quint. She, Quint, Keth, and (a very reluctant) Snobal attacked and pursued Aster and her kittens. Aster fled the clowder.
• Eventually, they found Aster staying with the Tree's Leaves. They waited until she was far from their camp before approaching her. The confrontation turned into a battle. Aster and Snobal fell beneath the frozen lake and drowned. Consumed by grief, Tabith blamed the other clowders for the loss of her son, claiming this never would have happened if they hadn't broken Interclowder Law and sheltered Aster.
