Personality & History

Personality

Eklis was an extremely short-tempered cat. She held grudges to an almost unbelieveable extent and was quite selfish. She found it difficult to cope with the pressure of being a Head, leading to a steep decline in her mental health, and slowly grew paranoid of those around her after her sister's, Sal's, death at the claws of rebels. She was never particularly stable in the first place, but she and her littermates were authoritative enough to claim the position of Head by force. It was her ideals that made her truly dangerous.

History

Eklis and her siblings took over the Mouse Catchers after a battle with the Tree's Leaves led to the previous Head, Saran the Mirthful's, death. Eklis swore vengeance, attacking the Tree's Leaves and eventually the Crow Hunters with any flimsy excuse she could muster. Though these battles led to many deaths for all involved, they are often looked back on by the Mouse Catchers fondly, as they owned a vast territory due to them. What is not remembered is how difficult it was to patrol that territory.

When a group of dark-furred Mouse Catchers, led by a cat named Tobi, grew tired of being mistreated, they confronted Sal and Nik (Eklis's siblings/co-Heads). Eklis was asleep until the situation escalated into a riot that reseulted in Sal's death. In retaliation, she killed Tobi and established the Hider role.

There were two attempts on her life by members of the Tree's Leaves, both of which involved its eventual Presider, Beedel. The first failed, resulting in the death of the current Presider as Eklis immediately retaliated. The second succeeded.

After her death, Nik surrendered. The territory Eklis claimed in her war against dark-furred cats was ceded. Despite the general failure of her rule on an objective level and the destruction it wrought for all sides, many Mouse Catchers still reminisce about fighting under Eklis's command.

Relationships

Allies

• Nik: Eklis cared deeply for Nik, but disliked his vices just as deeply. Simultaneously viewing him as her loveable brother and a problem to solve made their relationship tumultuous at best.
• Quint: Eklis chose Quint as a successor, believing him to be more objective than others due to his biological features. She often grew impatient when teaching him, unwilling to explain herself a thousand times. To her, he was a foolish kitten who was desperate to do anything she said.
• Sal: Eklis admired Sal's take-no-shit attitude and aimed to emulate it. Unfortunately, she couldn't quite manage it.

Foes

• Beedel: Eklis despised Beedel and everything he represented.
• Dark-furred cats: Eklis hated all dark-furred cats because she perceived them as inferior. She aimed to eradicate them.

Misc

• Eklis has preaxial polydactyly (meaning: she has extra toes) on her front paws. By practicing on prey, she perfected a special killing technique that used her thick extra claws to her advantage, and was capable of slicing any cat's throat with a single blow. However, these claws were not worn down when she walked or when she scratched, so she had to chew their ends off when they grew too long. This was her undoing, as Beedel happened to attack recently after she was forced to do so, leaving her unable to land her trademark blows.
• I associate her with Finders Keepers by RIP.
• Eklis was named after an eclipse that occurred soon before her birth. The Mouse Catchers misheard what the other clowders were calling it.
